'Common Ground' featured works by ten local artists which celebrated the natural Australian environment, as they explored their relationship with it.
Artists Statement
Representations of the Australian landscape are found throughout many historical and cultural art collections. This practice allows us to document our natural surroundings, evoke a sense of place and explore our understanding of the land. Our environment is continuously transforming over time due to climatic and (recent) anthropogenic influences. Currently, there are many issues surrounding the protection of the natural environment and biodiversity in Australia. In light of the issues at hand, the artists of Common Ground aim to create enthusiasm and explore their relationship with the landscape. This exhibition also aspires to encourage the wider community to cherish Australia’s native flora, fauna and ecosystems.
